Backwater Fishing Report

Cold Weather Fishing

The past few months have been filled with much colder weather than normal. This has helped and hurt the fishing in both ways. This past month’s cold front made for extreme low temperatures which killed many snook, trout and tarpon.

On the flip side the amount of redfish schools have been massive, both in the lagoon and backwaters. The redfish have been loving the jumbo live shrimp and white Henn Lure shrimp.

I’ve been finding schools of redfish in shallow areas along the oyster bars and also in the creeks. These schools have been averaging 50-75 fish.

As for the other species, snook and trout have been showing up in the back creeks as well but are a bit timid on the bite.

As we move into spring look for the same patterns to continue and more bait which means more larger fish on the hunt!
