A small group of locals decided to get together and reminisce about the times they shared with two close friends that had passed too soon, Ryan Michelbrink and Dave Fernandez. These friends decided to never forget them, and instead celebrate them. Both Ryan and Dave were active in local sports and the community, so the group of friends decided to host an event, where all ages would enjoy a fun day of sports.

The Event’s 4th annual sports competition fundraiser in memory of Ryan Michelbrink and Dave Fernandez will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the NSB Sports Complex located at 1800 Turnbull Bay Road in New Smyrna Beach.
Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. @ the NSB Sports Complex
In only four years, The Event has raised over $20,000 for Southeast Volusia County youth sports programs including: Southeast Volusia Youth Sports Association, NSBHS Wrestling Team, NSBHS Baseball Team, NSBHS Girls Beach Volleyball Team, Twirling Tornados and the Port Orange Youth Volleyball Team.Â

The Event is a one-day sports competition that is open to anyone, any age. The games are fun and basic, with each game only taking about 10 minutes to play. Open play is between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., giving participants plenty of time to enjoy the games, music and chances to win prizes throughout the day. Tickets to compete are $29.95 each and include an event t-shirt and one raffle ticket to win prizes.Â

“We are excited to continue our efforts to support local youth sports programs with this year’s event,” said one of the organizers. “Ryan Michelbrink and Dave Fernandez were both passionate about youth sports and we are proud to honor their memory by raising funds for this great cause.”
The Event promises to be a fun-filled day of sports, games, and community spirit. Participants will have a great time while supporting a worthy cause. The organizers encourage everyone to come out and show their support.
HOW IT WORKS

The games are fun and basic. You have three chances to make a point in each game. Each game station will have someone who tells you how to play and to mark your scorecard. Each game takes about 10 minutes, max, to complete. Once you have completed all the games you simply turn in your scorecard.
If you want to come watch someone else compete, or to just show your support, there is no charge.
