Inside Our Retail Journey
After years of serving the community as a beloved grab-and-go bakery, opening our retail location in October brought a whole new chapter—and a whole new set of lessons—for Dutch Oven Baking Co.
1. It’s okay to say no. Saying yes to everything eventually means saying no to your time, energy, or values. Clear boundaries don’t limit a business, they protect it. And they protect the people running it, too.
2. Not everyone will understand (or like) your decisions. From hours and menus to quantities and processes, every choice invites opinions. That’s part of running a visible business. We make decisions with long-term sustainability in mind—for the bakery and for our family, not short-term approval.
3. A reliable team is everything. No bakery survives on one pair of hands. Trust, consistency, care, and a shared mission are the real ingredients behind the scenes. I’m endlessly grateful for a team that shows up, learns, and genuinely cares.
4. Mindset changes the outcome. Some days are heavy or chaotic. Starting with the right mindset makes all the difference: growth over perfection, flexibility over fear, gratitude over scarcity. I don’t always know what I’m doing—but trying is how learning (and growth) happens.
5. Kindness always wins. Negative reviews and hard moments will happen. Pause, reflect, and respond with kindness. It goes farther than you think, and it always leaves you standing on solid ground.
Come visit us at 120 Canal St., open Wednesday–Saturday from 9–2.
