Play Along with my Custom BINGO Card!
As an online high school science teacher for Brevard County with three kids in Volusia County public schools, we try to go on little trips when school is out of session, like spring break in March. For a variety of reasons this year, we will not be traveling this month and are, instead, planning out our “Staycation.”
I think Staycations got a bit of a bad rap during the pandemic as there was a time when people had to stay home. For our spring break, I am not talking about staying in our home each day of vacation, locked away. No, I’m talking about living it up in the area around where we live and perhaps even taking small day trips to nearby attractions.

Staycation BINGO board
To help me organize my Staycation options and make it more fun than just a list, I have created a BINGO board of options. It’s just like it sounds: a BINGO board, but with activities instead of numbers! If you’d like to play along, a digital version is on my Instagram @CassGoAroundDaytona or on my public Facebook page, Cassandra “Cassie” Gonyer. I made and posted a similar board two years ago and had fun with the general categories, like “splash pad,” “beach,” or “shop local.” I have kept many of those for this year but have the pleasure of also partnering with some local businesses to offer specific places to shop and play where you can even earn special discounts!

Local Businesses Offering Staycation Gifts & Discounts
Both Hello Sunshine Fashions (209 S Florida Ave, DeLand) and Seapia (3280 S. Atlantic Ave, Daytona Beach Shores) are offering a “free gift with purchase” when you show your board in-store. Pretty Little Things of Deland (113 N. Woodland Blvd.) will let you choose your own Deland postcard for free to write to a friend about your staycation fun! Workspace Collective (132 W. ISB Blvd, Daytona) is offering $5 off of their day passes to use their co-working space. And the Coffee by KADA food truck, parked at 310 Jean St. in Daytona, has a special $3.59 café con leche every Monday!
Day Trips and Orlando Attractions for Spring Break
I mentioned day trips before and so want to highlight the “visit an Orlando attraction” box on the board. My family personally has annual passes right now to both Crayola Experience (8001 S. Orange Blossom Trl) and Fun Spot (5700 Fun Spot Way). Crayola gives my kids a creative outlet while Fun Spot lets them scream and laugh! Kelsey wrote about her family’s trip to the Orange County Regional History Center in our February issue, too. Of course you have the big theme parks, but let’s not sleep on the smaller attractions!

Enjoy a Relaxing and Fun-Filled Staycation
I’m looking forward to a fun Staycation for my spring break and the entire month of March. Always remember that other people vacation in the very place where we live, so let’s enjoy it as much as our visitors do. Plus, you get to sleep in your own bed ever night and wake up to your clothes in your own dresser instead of living out your trip’s suitcase. That sounds like a pretty good deal to me!
