Living and working in the New Smyrna Beach area, I often get asked about unique and memorable outdoor activities to fill a sunny afternoon. Skipping over the usual suggestions, I aim to surprise with suggestions that break away from the everyday. Recently, I personally took the plunge (quite literally) into three thrilling and completely unique activities, all of which I discovered conveniently accessible under one roof. These experiences are unlike anything you’d expect, adding a fresh twist to an afternoon outing!

Exploring NSB with Flaunt Electric Bikes
Good Times NSB at Flaunt Electric Vehicles is the ultimate one-stop shop for anyone seeking a thrill-packed adventure on electric bikes, hydrofoils, and GoBoats! Intrigued and ready for an unforgettable experience, I reached out to my good friend, Kevin Mount – the visionary behind Flaunt and Good Times NSB – to arrange a few epic days of exploration. Together, we crafted an itinerary brimming with excitement, designed to let my wife and I see New Smyrna Beach from exhilarating new perspectives and dive deeper into activities we’ve long wanted to try. This journey promised to be an unforgettable mix of discovery and fun, showcasing the city’s vibrant scenes from angles I’d only imagined!

On a picture-perfect day, Tiffany and I set out to experience NSB from a fresh perspective, hopping on Flaunt’s electric bikes for a leisurely exploration of the city. With these bikes, you can pedal when you want or switch to full throttle, reaching speeds around 20 mph, and with an impressive battery range of about 40 miles, they’re perfect for covering more ground without the effort of a traditional bike. Kevin always describes them as a whole new way to see any city – letting you move faster than you would on a manual bike, yet without the limitations of being in a car.

We followed winding, tree-lined bike paths that led us toward the beach, taking in each quiet neighborhood, coastal view, and tucked-away spot along the way. It was a chance to enjoy NSB without a strict plan, pausing whenever we felt like it and just taking in the surroundings. Toward the end of the day, we found ourselves on Flagler Avenue, pulling up to a restaurant without the usual hunt for parking, capping off a day that felt both refreshing and relaxed. There’s something special about spending an afternoon exploring at your own pace, and seeing our city this way – on two wheels, side by side – is one of the best ways to do it.
The GoBoat Experience
Our next adventure took us to the water, where we planned to test out both the GoBoat and the electric hydrofoil in a single action-packed afternoon. We met up with Kevin and our photographer for the day, Marriah, down at the dock. After loading up the pontoon boat, we geared up for what promised to be an incredible day on the water. We started off with the GoBoats— compact, inflatable, canvas-covered boats that resemble large round tubes, each equipped with a trolling motor and a high-tech battery that can last up to 16 hours. While they’re not built for speed, topping out around 6 mph, they’re perfect for a relaxed float along the water.

The GoBoats come in single or double-seater options, so they’re versatile for any group size. And here’s something unique: if you rent from Good Times NSB, they’ll even deliver the boats to wherever you’re staying. For those outside the immediate area, there’s a small additional fee, but it’s worth it for the flexibility. Even better, Kevin explained that you can take these boats with you, either inflated or deflated, so they’re easy to transport and set up. A simple hand pump does the job quickly, making it a breeze to inflate wherever you’re ready to launch. It’s clear they’ve thought of everything to make it easy to enjoy a day on the water, whether you’re staying local or venturing farther out!

We made our way to a quiet island near the mouth of Ponce Inlet, beaching the pontoon and getting ready to try out the GoBoat. Once in the water, we eased our way into the mangroves, gliding through areas where most boats could never reach. With only the soft sounds of water moving around us, it was peaceful and calm, giving us an up-close look at the hidden parts of the river and surrounding nature.
I could see the GoBoat’s potential for fishing – the silent motor and shallow draft let us navigate through narrow waterways without disturbing the fish, giving any angler a quiet, close-up advantage. We had a great time exploring, steering around tight corners, and just watching the water come to life around us. Fish leapt in our wake, and dolphins broke the surface so close to the boat we could almost reach them. This was a new way to experience the river, completely connected to the natural surroundings.
Try the Electric Hydrofoil Boards
And the GoBoat was only the start of the day. Next, we were set to try out the Electric Hydrofoil Board – ready to bring a whole new thrill to our afternoon on the water.
Ahh, the eFoil Board… think surfing, but more like gliding above the water’s surface with the quiet power of an electric motor beneath you. Capable of reaching speeds up to 30 mph, it’s a true thrill ride that combines balance, skill, and just a touch of daring. Of course, getting the hang of it doesn’t come instantly. You’ll start off with a lesson, led by Kevin himself or one of his skilled team members, to make sure you’re comfortable and steady before taking off.

As a requirement for every rental, this lesson isn’t just a formality – it’s essential. Riding the eFoil Board takes some practice, and Kevin’s team knows just how to assess when you’re ready to take on the open water. And trust me, there’s no shortcut; I learned that lesson firsthand after a few spills. But once you’re up and gliding, there’s nothing quite like it – an amazing sense of freedom, practically flying just inches above the water.
I approached the Electric Hydrofoil Board with a sense of excitement and a hint of overconfidence, thinking I could jump right in and master it quickly since I’m a surfer. Surely, I could handle it without a lesson! However, I quickly learned that riding an eFoil Board is a different ball game altogether. It didn’t take long for me to realize just how much I underestimated the skill required. I took some impressive spills, the kind that likely drew laughter from onlookers, and in those moments, it became clear why a lesson was so crucial.
Though I had a few moments of triumph where I actually managed to catch the lift and glide above the water, they were fleeting compared to the challenges I faced. But I couldn’t help but feel a rush of anticipation as I envisioned my next attempt, eager to get back out there and refine my technique. Before we wrapped up for the day, Kevin took the time to demonstrate how it’s really done, effortlessly gliding around the cove with the grace of someone who’s spent countless hours on the water. Watching him in action was inspiring, and I felt a surge of excitement, knowing that with a bit more practice, I could join him in that exhilarating experience.
