If you’ve spent any time on the water around New Smyrna Beach, chances are you’ve crossed paths with locals like Roddy Rupp — people who live for fishing, sailing, and soaking up everything our coastal lifestyle offers.
Catching More Than Fish: The Heart of Coastal Living
“I feel most at home on or near the water,” says Rod, a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy and a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the Navy Reserve. “Whether I’m chasing redfish, racing in a regatta, or catching a few waves, the water’s always been a huge part of my life.”
Though Rod’s travels have taken him to more than 20 countries, New Smyrna Beach’s charm keeps him anchored here. “There’s just something about the laid-back vibe and the vibrant waterways that makes this place special,” he says.
Rod’s love for the area runs even deeper these days as he and his wife get ready to welcome their first child. “We’re expecting a baby girl early next year, and I can’t wait to share this lifestyle with her,” he says. “Family is everything, and I’m excited to raise our daughter here where there’s so much to explore.”
Lately, Rod’s been enjoying early mornings on the Intracoastal. “The redfish and trout bite has been steady, especially around docks and mangroves. I like using live shrimp or soft plastic jigs — they never let me down,” he shares. His advice? “Keep an eye on the tides, and plan around those summer afternoon storms.”
Helping Others Cast Into the Coastal Dream
Off the water, Rod helps others embrace this lifestyle as a local realtor. “I love helping people find a home where they can live their coastal dreams —whether that’s a canal-front cottage or a place with space for a boat,” he says. Contact Rod at RodRuppRealtor@gmail.com to connect.
