Featured photo and headshots provided by Kenneth Grant Inzpirations
In the past few years of being an “Instagram Influencer” (don’t worry, I’m rolling my eyes, too!), I have had to pose for more photographs than I have since probably high school, back when all of our activities had to be photographed for the yearbook. I actually had no problem taking selfies when the local “Selfie Studio” was open, but having a photographer in front of me taking pictures is still so nerve-wracking. I never know what to do with my hands or face and feel incredibly self-conscious. Despite all of this, I recently had new headshots taken by Kenneth Grant Inzpirations that completely changed my perspective on being photographed!
About Kenneth Grant Inzpirations
Before I continue with me, a bit more about Kenneth Grant Inzpirations (KGI). Husband and wife team, James and LaToya Carey, founded KGI in 2016, named after their two sons. They are known for their professional headshots and branding photography and, in the last several years, the Cultuvue Photography Exhibition. After James did a Google search for images of “Black men” and only found negative stereotypes, he and LaToya decided to change the cultural perspective by creating their own images of African American leaders, artists, first-responders, and more. Cultuvue will be hosted at The Hub on Canal (132 Canal St., New Smyrna Beach) for the month of November for all to see their beautiful work.
Why You Should Choose a Professional for Your Headshots
KGI calls their photography sessions an “experience” and I would have to agree that their attention to every detail is what made this time being photographed so much better. When booking the appointment for their studio (1808 W. International Speedway Blvd., Daytona Beach), LaToya goes over clothing choices and recommendations for hair and makeup artists. While I have had my hair professionally done several times in my life, I can’t remember a time that I had my makeup done for me. I felt like a princess being pampered and then a rockstar showing up to the photo shoot!
During the session, James gives helpful tips on posing and is standing behind panels so that I didn’t just feel like a camera was staring at me the whole time. He also showed me what the images looked like so I could decide if I liked my smile or needed to “cheese it” even more.
My kids just had “picture day” at their school recently and shared with me some of the same nerves that I have had with my own photo sessions. When to smile, how to smile, where to put hands, etc. I think they would have had a much better time if they had the experience that I did with KGI at their school! I would recommend that all adults update their headshots regularly to be prepared for professional opportunities and if you’re going to have them done, be sure to go see the very best!
