Campers will participate in two sessions each day and work on multiple art projects each week. Breaks will be taken throughout the day for snacks, lunch, and games. We invite our Campers to bring their imaginations, create memories to last a lifetime, and discover the adventures that await when they make art.
Themes change weekly, so Campers may register for more than one session. Children will be placed in small groups to ensure they receive personalized attention. No previous art-making experience necessary. Visits to the Museum’s galleries will enhance the educational experience and provide additional motivation and inspiration.

FREEBIRD-ATL: “Turn it up!” And with those words musical history was set in motion! FreeBird is The Ultimate Lynyrd Skynyrd Experience – period. As a band FreeBird’s members have been in love with the music since childhood, and they play these songs with the same passion and intensity of Lynyrd Skynyrd themselves. If you saw the original line up in the 1970s you will appreciate the accuracy, if you’re just discovering the music for the first time, you’ll be blown away by hit after hit of incredible music and amazing players. Vocalist Leon Priest masterfully catches the essence of Ronnie Van Zant’s vocals and stage persona, guiding the band and players through solos, song after song. Guitarists Matt Chenoweth (Ed King/Steve Gains), John Hopkins (Allen Collins) and Jeff Langston (Gary Rossington) play their roles with such explosive energy and skill you’d think you were at a show in the 1970s. Russell Ingram on drums and Jeff Brashears on bass nail down the groove and power of Artimus Pyle and Leon Wilkeson rhythm section, while keyboardist Joey Huffman (formerly with Lynyrd Skynyrd and more) gracefully adds in Billy Powell’s keyboards for a full and amazing rendition of one of the greatest bands that ever recorded and toured. FreeBird brings all the magic of the music to life in a way seldom heard by any tribute act. Get ready for a full helping of Southern Fried Rock N Roll by the best Skynyrd tribute band around – Fly High FreeBird Nation!

Art in the Form of Film: Paths of Glory (1957)
When: Fri, June 16, 2023 at 5:45pm – 9:00pm
An early film by the great director Stanley Kubrick, this black & white drama set in WWI stars a young Kirk Douglas. Its plot is loosely based on a true story about three randomly chosen French soldiers who were unreasonably executed for cowardice after a near-suicidal mission failed. The film’s portrayal of what transpired was so powerful that when first released, the film was banned by the French government, which didn’t want to be reminded of its commanders’ incompetent disregard for the safety of soldiers in the trenches. Instructor Paul Marino will introduce the film, raise questions to ponder and host a post-viewing discussion. Sponsor: Chases on the Beach, Where it’s Always Sunny.
Special Fee: $10, includes a glass of wine or bottle of water.

This modern retelling of the classic children’s story has all of the characters you know and love, including the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit, and the Queen of Hearts. The story is laid out in traditional style, except that Alice is distinctly contemporary, complete with cell phone in hand. Full of references to text messaging and social media, the play imagines a present-day Alice encountering the Wonderland so many of us treasure. A sharply told, crisply paced ride, this quality adaptation has been praised for its humor, modern style, and appeal to both children and adults.

U-Boats, Saboteurs, and Orange Groves: Florida in World War II with Ryan Lowery
Florida’s role in World War II was far more consequential to the safety of the United States than many realize. Once the war broke out, Germany was probing America’s doorstep with submarines and saboteurs. At the time, Florida was the largest state surrounded by water and America increased its defense by creating airbases and naval bases to combat enemy intrusion. Pensacola grew to be a major military center for training men for the conflict overseas and pilots would learn how to operate aircraft for service in the Pacific and Europe. The state also became a haven for German Prisoners of War from North Africa and a scene for sinking Merchant vessels bound for England. Learn how Florida was necessary in the defense of the mainland United States against Nazi tyranny and how it would help win the largest war in history.
The French Connection with Zach Zacharias
The French had a long connection to Florida dating back to 1563 with their colony of Fort Caroline. Campbell Town, Napoleon’s nephew, French aid during the American Revolutionary War, pirates, John James Audubon, merci trains and more are discussed in this presentation about the French influence in Florida over the last 500 years. Join J. Zach Zacharias for this little-known history of Florida.
