South Daytona Sparkle Days
April 15 through April 25 in South Daytona

The City’s annual “Sparkle Days” Cleanup Campaign begins on Friday, April 15th and ends on Monday, April 25th. During this ten-day period, residents will be able to put out most anything from old appliances and furniture to yard waste and junk cars. City crews will team up with Waste Pro and will be going through each neighborhood to pick up items set out by the curb. You do not have to call to schedule pickup.
After April 26th, all rules for regular garbage pickup apply. The only restrictions placed on items that can be disposed of during Sparkle Days are that no hazardous waste will be picked up. This includes paint, paint thinners, gasoline, solvents, pool chemicals, etc. These items should be taken to the Volusia County Landfill – call 947-2952 for details. If a paint can is empty and dried out, you may throw it in with your regular trash. If you have junk vehicles or boats, call Public Works to schedule a pick-up of those items. The title or registration must accompany each vehicle or boat before it can be picked up.
Any residents with physical limitations can get special assistance by calling Public Works at 322-3080 from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
HELPFUL HINTS FOR SPARKLE DAYS:
- Used oil may be disposed of at the Oil Igloo located at the Public Works Department, 1770 Segrave Street. Used oil is considered hazardous waste and will not be collected during Sparkle Days.
- Automobile batteries and tires may also be set out by the curb for pickup.
- For the safety of others, if you place an appliance to the curb, please remove the door or secure it shut.
- To make pickup easier, please keep items separated and, if possible, put them in a bag or a container.

CANCELLED: New Smyrna Beach Balloon Glow
April 8 – 10 @ the New Smyrna Beach Airport, 602 Skyline Dr, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168

UPDATE:
Due to forecasted high winds this weekend, the New Smyrna Beach Balloon Glow has been postponed.
The National Weather Service predict winds of 22mph on Friday and 25mph on Saturday, and have further declared poor boating conditions through Sunday due to gusty weather.
The Balloon Glow Tour have an operational limitation of 7mph on tethered rides and at no point during the weekend does it look like weather conditions will be conducive for ballooning.
The Balloon Glow Tour have requested a reschedule date which will be announced later. Tickets sold will be valid on new dates, at other Balloon Glow Tour locations or the 2023 event. If these options do not work, please contact the Balloon Glow Tour on 407-615-1161 or email info@easyeventsgroup.com.
Tour Director Richard Garvie made the decision to postpone, and apologized for any inconvenience caused.
“It’s really unfortunate that the weather conditions will not cooperate this weekend. As a company, we only get paid if we scan tickets at the gate and what we don’t want to do is redeem tickets if we know there is no chance of the balloons being inflated. It can’t really be a balloon festival without balloons, so it is better for most people that we try and do a different weekend.”
“We have tentatively penciled in a new date of June 10th to 12th, 2022 but this is subject to a variety of different approvals.”
“Most people will understand that the balloons cannot inflate in high winds and the need to put the safery of pilots, staff and guests before monteray concerns, but I too get that some people will be frustrated and may not be able to attend any new dates or other locations. For those people, I ask them to call me direct on 407-615-1161 or email info@easyeventsgroup.com so we can get them taken care of. Obviously we are expecting a few phone calls, so if you cannot reach us straight away, feel free to send a text message and I will be sure to call you personally.”
Come and celebrate 75 years of aviation in New Smyrna Beach at the airport with hot air balloon glows and tethered rides (weather permitting), an aircraft display, food vendors, retail vendors, activities for the kids and much more!
