Small Business Saturday, an annual shopping day observed like Black Friday, is traditionally held on the Saturday following Thanksgiving. It was first began by the American Express credit card company in 2010 at the height of the Great Recession as a way to pump American spending into smaller businesses by redirecting consumer holiday shopping.
After the struggles of last year with shutdowns, short staffing and cut spending, many small businesses are greatly dependent on this year’s holiday gift purchases.
