Little Literacy Heroes 5K

The Early Learning Coalition of Flagler and Volusia Counties (ELCFV) is actively promoting the 2nd annual Little Literacy Heroes 5K to be held Sunday, October 10 at One Daytona. Proceeds from the event will benefit Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Volusia (DPIL-V), a book-gifting program facilitated by the ELCFV, for children birth through five years old. The event will include a kid’s zone with crafts, games, a story time, and more. All participants who register receive a t-shirt, cape and medal. DPIL-V currently mails books each month to more than 3,400 children and the waiting list is growing. The program is entirely supported by local donations and grants the ELCFV regularly applies for. ELCFV is excited to be able to host the event in person this year, as last year’s event was virtual and severely limited the event’s participation number. The public is encouraged to sign up to walk or run the 5K to contribute to fundraising efforts, but is also welcome to attend the event regardless of whether they register. Participants may sign up at RunSignup.com/Race/FL/DaytonaBeach/DPIL5k. Registration for the 5K is $30 and registration for the one-mile Kids Run is $10. Community members interested in participating or learning more about Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library may contact Serena Piper, Community Partnerships Coordinator, at (386) 317-3354 or them online. elcfv.org/Dolly-Partons-Imagination-Library
