The Spirit of Christmas Lives at The Hub on Canal with 3 Events:

Add sparkle to your holidays and celebrate the holiday spirit through December 27 at The Hub on Canal!

The Annual Holiday Gallery of Gifts has returned to help deck your halls with unique holiday décor and an array of gifts crafted and created by local artists: fine art, apparel, jewelry, photography, sculpture, glass works, and home décor and ornaments. Gift certificates available.

The Art of the Trees presents 27 Christmas trees artfully decorated by Hub Artists, Volunteers and Friends. The trees are going fast, so stop by The Hub to get your one-of-a-kind tabletop tree while you can! The entire proceeds of tree purchases will help fund two of The Hub’s Children’s Outreach programs: Art Instruction for the school year at the Boys & Girls Clubs in Edgewater and New Smyrna Beach and Art Therapy for young people in the Exceptional Student Education (ESE) program at New Smyrna Beach High School.

The Giving Tree makes its debut at The Hub this holiday season. Your donations, large or small, help us decorate the tree. Every dollar donated goes towards The Hub’s Summer or Winter Art Camp scholarships for students whose families wouldn’t otherwise be able to attend our award-winning camps.

Location: The Hub on Canal, 132 Canal Street, New Smyrna Beach. Fine Art Photography Gallery at The Hub, 120 Canal Street. For more information, visit www.theHUBoncanal.org or phone 386.957.3924.

Resin Painting Workshop at The Hub on Canal

Spectacular effects can be achieved when “painting” with flowing fluids. Resins stand out because of the ability to embed mica pigments, inks, stones and other materials. Learn how to use various techniques and products to produce a stunning finished piece. No two creations will be alike! Because of extended drying time, you will pick up your piece the following day.

Fee: $85 for Members; $105 for non-members (plus $35 supplies fee paid to instructor on day of workshop). Limited to 7 participants. Masks are required.

Location: The Hub on Canal, 132 Canal Street, New Smyrna Beach. For more information and to register, visit www.theHUBoncanal.org or phone 386.957.3924.

The Family Stone (2005) at The Hub on Canal

Friday, December 18, 5:30-9pm, Art in the Form of Film with Paul Marino

In the genre of holiday films, this one stands out for no other reason than its stellar cast, which includes family matriarch Diane Keaton, son Dermot Mulroney, girlfriend of son Sarah Jessica Parker, and sister of girlfriend Claire Danes. But another good reason for its success is that main characters are allowed to grow to the point that those intensely disliked in the film’s beginning are cheered for by its end. Not a huge hit at the time of its release, The Family Stone has since become a sleeper hit and favorite to watch at Christmastime. The plot centers on a loving but slightly dysfunctional family whose individual members and various outsiders clash after a cascade of mishaps and misunderstandings. While The Family Stone never descends into slapstick comedy, it is often funny, and while it manages to avoid sentimentality, it often tugs at the heartstrings. Instructor Paul Marino will introduce the film, raise questions to ponder and host a post-viewing discussion. Sponsor: Tina Pritchard, Coldwell Banker Coast Realty.

Fee: $7 includes glass of wine or bottle of water. Limited seating available. You may secure your seat in advance by calling or stopping by The Hub. Masks are required.

Location: The Hub on Canal, 132 Canal Street, New Smyrna Beach. For more information and to register, visit www.theHUBoncanal.org or phone 386.957.3924.
