Nature and Environmental Events with the Lyonia Environmental Center

The Lyonia Environmental Center (LEC) offers insights into Volusia County’s fragile ecosystems through hands-on displays and educational programs. It’s part of the Deltona regional Library complex at 2150 Eustace Ave., Deltona.

The center’s environmental specialists and volunteers promote an understanding of the county’s natural environment, the heritage it sustains, and the challenges it faces. 

Admission is always free!

Hours of operation Due to Covid-19, they are currently only open:

  • Wednesday 4:00 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.
  • Saturday 9:00 am – 5:00 p.m.

A variety of events are held throughout the county each month, find the upcoming schedule below:

November 7 @ 9 AM – Autumn Animal Abodes Hikes

Venture out on the Lyonia Preserve trails, where LEC staff will explain the strategies animals use to survive colder temperatures and where they spend their winter. 

With social distancing in mind, each program will be limited to eight persons. Participants must register at least 48 hours before the program. Only registrants will be allowed to participate. To register, call 386-789-7207, ext. #21028.

November 7 @ 1:30 PM – Nature Film

Watch “Magic of the Snowy Owl” and observe as filmmakers provide an intimate look at the snowy owl, a bird made popular by Harry Potter’s faithful companion, Hedwig. Though “snowies” naturally stand out for their beauty and intelligence, it is their determination and survival skills that are truly magical in their bleak arctic home.

Meet at Lyonia Environmental Center, 2150 Eustace Ave., Deltona. 

Participation is limited to 10 persons to allow for social distancing. Registration is required; call 386-789-7207, ext. #21028. Walk-ins will not be permitted.

November 12 @ 4:30 PM – Sunset stroll over Lyonia

Enjoy a late afternoon stroll into Lyonia Preserve. Participants will enjoy a panoramic view of the sun setting over the trails.

To allow for social distancing, the program will be limited to 10 persons. Registration is required; call 386-789-7207, ext. #21028. Walk-ins will not be permitted.

LEC staff has established public program procedures based on current guidelines. These procedures are subject to change based on guidance at the local, state and federal levels. Programs may be modified at any time as needed.
