The city of New Smyrna Beach will host a groundbreaking ceremony for its City Hall Annex project at 214 Sams Ave. on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 5:30 p.m.
NSB Breaks Ground on City Hall Annex THURSDAY
The project involves renovation of the “weeping mortar” building just north of NSB’s historic city hall located at 210 Sams Ave. and finishing the adjacent vacant lot currently used as overflow parking during special events.
Once the project is completed, the building will house new commission chambers named for former Mayor James Hathaway and office space for city development services staff as they relocate from their current location at 2650 N. Dixie Freeway.
“This project will benefit New Smyrna Beach residents and businesses by consolidating city administrative services into one convenient location and providing both a modern commission chambers and beautifully landscaped public parking lot. It’s a clear win-win for the downtown area and the city as a whole that we look forward to cutting the ribbon on soon,” said city spokesperson Phillip Veski.
Of note, the ceremony will also serve as the first official function for the city’s Citizen Academy 2019 class before their first session titled “Welcome to City Hall,” where they will be formally introduced to city commissioners and briefed by senior city staff.
