PARK(ing) Day is an annual event that encourages local businesses, community members, students, and designers to transform metered parking spaces into temporary “parklets.”
Essentially, a parklet is an extension of the sidewalk into on-street parking spaces to create more people-oriented spaces. This is often done by introducing seating, planting, bicycle parking, or other elements of play and activity. The goal is to improve public spaces by adding opportunities for people to interact more with their surrounding community and to reinvent our often vehicle-oriented cities.
Take a leisurely stroll along Canal Street on Friday, Sept. 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. while participating in four fun parklets:
1. “The Game Park”
2. “The Picnic Place”
@ CorkScrew Bar & Grille: A nice shady spot to enjoy the day. Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch.
3. “The Dog’s Den”
@ Yellow Dog Eats Kitchen & Bar: Chill out in the comfy den while enjoying a new public space.
4. “The Artist Park”
@ The HUB on Canal: Everyone of all ages will love this parklet! Add your talent to a work of art.
This event is brought to you by City of New Smyrna Beach, LTG, Inc., and Surfcoast Chapter of the Florida Planning & Zoning Association.
