Tour de Force – 911 Memorial Bike Ride
This year, five deputies from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office traveled to New York to take part in a 9/11 memorial bike ride known as Tour de Force. This event was held on September 6-9, 2019, is over 250 miles long, and took the cyclists from Yankee Stadium to Fenway Park.
The Tour de Force’s dual mission is to honor the victims of 9/11 by keeping their memory alive through cycling events and to raise funds to benefit the families of law enforcement officers nationwide who were killed in the line of duty.
Sun Coast Roofing and Solar Donates Tickets to New York for Memorial Ride

On August 8, 2019 owner and CEO of Sun Coast Roofing and Solar, Rick Tauscher, presented Division Chief Tim Morgan and Lieutenant Richard Fortin with two round-trip tickets to New York. “Once I heard why this year was so important to them, I knew I wanted to be involved,” stated Tauscher.
Although this is not the first time they will be participating in this bike ride, this year the attending Volusia County deputies will be hosting an honorary ride for Volusia County Senior Deputy Frank Scofield, who was killed on June 2, 2019 while riding his bike and training for this year’s Tour de Force ride.
“This one strikes home because it meant so much to Frank. This year we ride to remember him,” stated Fortin.
Nine law enforcement officers from NYC rode a total of 275 miles in the inaugural Tour de Force 9/11 Memorial Ride in 2002. Today there are 300 riders with a goal to raise $750,000.
“He [Frank] was such a big supporter of this event and never missed a year,” stated Morgan. “It’s gonna be hard since Frank won’t be there, but we can’t think of a better way to honor him.”
