MDC June Public Lecture Discusses Fertilizer Ordinance

Volusia County has a fertilizer ordinance, but what does that mean and what is it intended to do? That will be the topic of the Marine Discovery Center’s June public lecture.

June 20 at 6 PM @ Marine Discovery Center

Megan B. Martin, the Be Floridian Now Coordinator of the Green Volusia Program with the county’s Environmental Management Division, will present on “Fertilizer, Nutrients and Composting.”

The presentation is set for Thursday, June 20, starting at 6 p.m. The lecture is hosted by the Marine Discovery Center, located at 520 Barracuda Boulevard in New Smyrna Beach.

Martin will discuss the ordinance, as well as nutrient behavior in soils, nutrient pollution in our waters and what homeowners can do in their own yards to compost.

She is an experienced environmental educator with a background in sustainable food systems and clean water initiatives. As a part of the Green Volusia team, Martin helps coordinate the county’s sustainability goals. She was previously based at the Lyonia Environmental Center in Deltona.

The June lecture is open to the public at no charge and no reservations are required.

Seating in the center’s Learning Lab is limited and early arrival is recommended.
